What You Can Expect

Begin with early pickup from a selected San José hotel and travel toward Costa Rica’s Caribbean slope. After breakfast, meet your certified bilingual rafting team, receive professional equipment and complete a paddling and safety orientation.

Day 1 follows the upper Pacuare through Class II–III whitewater, lush rainforest and cascading side streams. Stop for a hearty riverside lunch before reaching the remote ecolodge, where you can relax, explore designated trails or enjoy the river setting before dinner.

After breakfast on Day 2, return to the raft for the longer and more challenging Lower Pacuare section. Paddle through Class III–IV rapids and the dramatic Pacuare Gorge before finishing with lunch, changing time and transportation back to the confirmed drop-off area.

Day 1 — San José to the Rainforest Lodge

  • Early pickup from a selected San José metro-area hotel
  • Scenic transportation to the operations center and included Costa Rican breakfast
  • Equipment fitting, safety briefing and paddle practice
  • Guided rafting through Class II–III rapids on the upper Pacuare
  • Riverside picnic lunch and possible waterfall stop, depending on conditions

Day 2 — Lower Pacuare and Pacuare Gorge

  • Breakfast and preparation for the final river section

  • Finish at the operations center for lunch, showers and changing time

Pickup Information

Pickup is available from selected San José metro-area hotels. Enter your complete hotel name and address when booking. The exact pickup time and meeting point will be confirmed after reservation.

Transportation from Arenal or Puerto Viejo may be available for an additional charge and must be arranged in advance. Service is not guaranteed for every hotel or private rental.

Duration and Return

The experience lasts two days and includes one overnight stay. Pickup generally begins early on Day 1, with return during the afternoon or early evening of Day 2.

Return time varies with traffic, weather, river level, group pace and safety decisions. Do not schedule a flight or time-sensitive connection for the evening of your return.

Flip-flops and loose sandals are not suitable for rafting.

Cancellation Policy

Overnight packages reserve lodge accommodation, guides and transportation and may have stricter cancellation terms than a one-day tour. Review the final cancellation deadline and penalties displayed during checkout before payment.
